News

On 18 June 2026, Nature published an editorial about the Leiden Declaration. It states that ‘Nature wholeheartedly endorses both the declaration process and its conclusions’. See Mathematicians are developing rules for AI use — other fields should follow, Nature 654, 571 (2026).
On 2 June 2026, the International Mathematical Union (IMU) endorsed the Leiden Declaration on Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics. For more information, see the editorial by the IMU Secretary General, Christoph Sorger, in IMU News 137.

Events

From 22 September to 17 November 2026, the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences in Toronto hosts (on Zoom) Engaging with the Leiden Declaration, a series of panel discussions in which each session takes up two or three of the Declaration’s recommendations as open problems in practice.
On 26 July 2026, the Leiden Declaration was presented and discussed by Jim Portegies at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Philadelphia (slides, PDF). Terence Tao also presented the Declaration in his ICM public lecture Mathematics in the Age of AI on 24 July 2026 (slides).

Institutional announcements

On 24 July 2026, the Declaration was endorsed by ICARM, the Institute for Computer-Aided Reasoning in Mathematics hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.
Other institutional support includes the Sociedad Matemática Mexicana, the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics, the Türk Matematik Derneği, and the Norsk matematisk forening.
