We're at a crossroads in mathematics: as a community we need to decide as to how individual practices of using AI can contribute to keeping our discipline healthy, interesting, and relevant while, at the same time, being mindful of the inevitable downsides.

The challenges our community faces are not entirely new, but definitely of great scale. I appreciate and relate with how the declaration accepts them while offering clear ideas for adaptation at the level of the individual, the research groups, and the larger communities.

This is an effort worth joining. I discovered it after a lecture from Dr. Terence Tao. For months I felt overwhelmed by the progress of AI and how proper research should be carried. AI generated knowledge without humanization do not expand human knowledge.

There are aspects of this declaration that are partially debatable - for example, the focus on meritocracy (very much a neoliberal ideology that is not intrinsically entangled with mathematics); or on peer-reviewing (whose reliability, consistency, and bias-related issues are commonly discussed in our community. The crucial aspect is, IMO, that mathematical results need not actually be peer-reviewed, but rather that they _could_ be peer-reviewed at any time, if so needed.) Having said that, this is still a very important contribution to the discussion with policymakers I support it and and will apply its principles in my practice.

As others have said, this Declaration arrives at an important time. It is no longer sufficient for our values as a community to remain implicit. Whatever tools we may use, our goal is human understanding, and our intellectual autonomy is paramount.
