For many mathematicians—and professionals across various disciplines—the rapid encroachment of AI into fields we consider our calling has forced us to question our very sense of purpose. Ultimately, we must ask ourselves: did we build intelligent machines to improve and elevate the human spirit, or are we surrendering the pursuits we hold dearest to these machines and the insatiable corporations that own them?

Mathematics is the practices of the mathematics community. One day AI will prove theorems faster than humans. But I hope we will still be doing math. It is up to us to maintain and build a world in which there will be a place for humans and for human mathematics.
