It is important to reflect on the significance of the current moment in mathematical history. What sort of values do we want to inculcate in the mathematics students of the future? If we are not deliberate in understanding these values judiciously right now, then we run the risk of one of the oldest human arts to become a commodity that no longer provides "human flourishing" in the future. We must be very careful. I wholeheartedly welcome this declaration and the much-needed dialogue in the wider community that it must generate.

Comment
There are infinitely many theorems that might be proved within the accepted framework of modern mathematics. Of these, only finitely many will be of relevance, interest, and beauty to humanity. Because of this, humans have indispensable role in guiding mathematical exploration. Already, AI generation makes it easy to flood journals with technically correct and complex papers that would serve no purpose other than to be published, increasing the workload of reviewers while producing little of human merit. Moreover, even when problems are relevant to humans- mathematics as a field seeks not just an answer, but to share understanding with other people- a proof understood only by a computer or a single person is a proof that does not deepen our collective insight. It might provide utility in application, but does not provide a satisfying "why". This means that the communication of mathematics must also be human, so we have an obligation to be transparent when we do use AI and an obligation to personally understand any output we use (in the sense that we can follow and validate the chain of reasoning, but not necessarily the raw computations). While we may eventually widely adopt the use of AI in mathematical research, if we should do, we should do so thoughtfully with respect to the above and other ethical concerns. This declaration is a good start and I support this community effort and discussion.

The artificial intelligence has the potential to accelerate the advancement of mathematical research once used appropriately, yet it also has the danger of impairing the core values of mathematics, especially in the young and future generations.
