    The Leiden Declaration hits exactly my concern about the impact on the mathematical community from the vast development of AI capabilities. Human mathematical activity, since the time of ancient Greece, has constantly been valued as an indispensable part of philosophy. For thousands of years, wise natural philosophers and mathematicians have built the gigantic cathedral of present-day mathematics, though it is merely the tip of the iceberg. Mathematical exploration should always be regarded as the highest-quality cognitive work guided by human mathematicians, producing positive consequences for other disciplines of science and technology, as well as for the education system. As members of the mathematical community, we should be more collectively united in taking action on the technical impact on our community, protecting cultural value and intellectual property, as well as a healthy, sustainable ecosystem of mathematics.

    Mathematical research is an inherently creative activity. As such, the time, effort and conversations required to reach a deep understanding of a mathematical challenge and, ultimately, to create new mathematics, are not problems to be figured out and solved. They are an expression of how deeply mathematics and human thinking are intertwined; a homage to the many curious minds that came before, work alongside and will come after us.
