I see this Declaration as a call to protect the conditions under which mathematical knowledge can be learned, shared and trusted. A result becomes mathematically and educationally meaningful when people can question it, understand its grounds and take responsibility for its use. AI should widen access to inquiry and collaboration, while preserving the human judgment and dialogue through which mathematics advances.

I support the Leiden Declaration because it recognises both the promise and the responsibility that come with artificial intelligence in research, mathematics, science, and engineering. As an engineer and deep-tech founder, I have used AI as a tool for structuring ideas, testing assumptions, improving communication, and accelerating careful technical thinking. Used well, AI can help researchers and innovators move faster and think more clearly. But it should never be treated as a substitute for expertise, verification, authorship, or accountability. In technical and scientific work, plausibility is not enough. Claims must still be checked, reasoning must remain transparent, sources must be properly attributed, and the human author must take responsibility for correctness and consequence. For me, a future is not one where AI replaces mathematicians, researchers, engineers, or inventors. It is one where AI supports serious human work while preserving rigour, originality, fairness, and judgment. That is why I am signing this declaration. Powerful tools should strengthen human understanding, not weaken the values that make knowledge trustworthy.

As a pure mathematician, I see mathematics as an art form, and thus I believe AI's use in mathematics should be similar to what many believe should be AI's place in the arts, nonexistent. We as mathematicians should be at the helm of deciding what to research and how to go about that process, rather than relying on tech companies and their models to do that for us. In addition, keeping track of a record of citations is not only crucial for the verification of correctness, but also for uplifting our fellow mathematicians who have and will continue to do great, human-driven work.
